Bluetooth-Profiles

1. Headset-profile

If the car kit and the mobile only have a headset protocol, you can only use the basic functions.
You can use the remote control to receive calls and end them, to activate voice dial and re-dial and adjust the volume.

2. Handsfree-profile

The most modern handsfree profile offers many improvements in comparison to the headset profile. Using the data connection, digital call numbers can be sent which allows the full use of the voice controlled car kit. Further functions concern audio transmission by radio connection and directory.

3. Sim-Access-profile

This Bluetooth profile for cars is still so new that the relevant products have only shortly been announced. This profile is not used for the transfmission of audio data but for SIM data. The SIM card in the mobile is practically copied to the handsfree unit where an installed GSM telefon takes over the data and the telefon communication.
For this, the radio module in the mobile is deactivated and telefon calls are made via the car kit GSM module as if using the mobile with a SIM card. Using this method the antenna connection can be used without any mobile holder.

Higher fines since the 1. April 2004

The fines for telephoning with a mobile in a car have been increased by about 10 Euros. In future, car drivers pay 40 Euros and cyclists 25.
This means telephoning with a mobile without a handsfree unit is classed as deliberate law breaking and is punished with an endorsment on the driving licence (1 point in Flensburg) - cyclists are simply fined.

Bluetooth and water do not mix

When using Bluetooth headset make sure that the software in your mobile is up to date. Old software versions lead to audible interference on the headset and reduce the standby duration

Although the headset has a range of around 10 meters, the water in the human body(95%) is enough to block the signal. When using the headset always ensure that both units (headset and mobile) are carried on the same side of the body (eg : right ear, right pocket - left ear, left pocket).

Walls are for Bluetooth radio communication less of an obstruction than the human body.

Bluetooth headset electromagnetic smog

If you have any doubts about using your mobile and Bluetooth because of electromagnetic smog , there is no need to worry.
The reason : The radio output of Bluetooth is a lot less than that of a GSM mobile. Depending on the reception your mobile transmits between 10 Milliwatts und 2 Watts.

As the distance between the headset and the mobile is usually less than 10 meters, the Bluetooth headset normally transmits with a tenth of the power of your mobile.
In most cases the transmission power will be around a hundreth so the electromagnetic smog caused by a Bluetooth unit is negligeable compared to a mobile.
